FLYPRINTS went down last Thursday to Notting Hill Arts Club and hit up their weekly Thursday event known as YOYO’s.
It is hosted by the resident DJ’s Seb Chew and Leo G, who have been Dj’ing at the event for years spinning the latest bangers from the hip hop, grime and dub-step scene, as well as your classic selections from finer years. The night is built up of two or three live performances which go on from around 9 until around 11 depending on the set list and then the DJs take to the 1s & 2s for the rest of the night. The crowd is your general West end cool kids who all seem to have a general appreciation of good music and good timmeeees.
Last week the crowd was graced with two performances, first I Ching took to the stage. They are an unsigned, london group best described as Electro-Acoustic, New Wave, Pop, made up of 4 members.
The second act to perform was MeLo-X, the multitalented Brooklyn MC, DJ, Producer AND photographer who FLYPRINTS featured an artist showcase on 2 weeks ago HERE. His performance was perfectly entertaining as he got the crowd dancing, singing, swinging their hips to his infectious tracks.
He switched between performing some of his own tracks from his latest EP More Merch and playing classic hip hop tracks to keep the crowd excited. His stage presence was dope and engaging while he danced around the stage as well as inviting a lucky lady on to join him for a quick wine, after that was done he went into the crowd to get down a little more!
YOYO’s always used to be the hotspot for a good Thursday night, I remember when I used to live in Notting Hill 3 years ago a Thursday night wasn’t complete without a trip to the Notting Hill Arts Club. In recent years people like to say that it has “lost its touch” and “not as cool as it used to be”. Well I would disagree after last Thursday. The music was great, the performances were entertaining and the crowd were just there to have a good time. YOYO’s is back in business for the summer… and FLYPRINTS will be back there on 14th of April – more info coming later this week!
We had a great night making new friends, drinking and dancing the night away! Stay locked in for our interview with MeLo-X coming on Monday!
