Something eventful happened on the 1/10/10. The street wear brand known as ‘The Ugly Kids Club’ enhanced our plain ice cream lives with ‘100’s & 1000’s’! They have dropped their new Autumn winter collection called guess what, yes ’100′s & ’1000′(hundreds and thousands) but, before I talk about their new collection I would like to touch on them as a brand.

It’d be easy to assume that the ‘Ugly Kids Club’ are a cheap knock off of ’Billionaire Boys Club’ due to the similarities in their names. However, these guys have substance as the designers have backgrounds in graffiti and customisation. “Customisers of The Year 2006″ .That style has spilled over into their clothing.
The A/W collection displays the Ugly Kids Club text in the form ‘100’s & 1000’s’(ice cream sweets), the creators say that their inspiration stems from a life time love of sweets and cakes (hmmm that reminds me of another brand *cough * Pins *cough*). The T Shirt comes in 4 colourways black, grey, purple and pink priced £25.The black sweater is £45 and limited to just 25 pieces; it features their woven swan logo on the back neck and left cuff.
These designs takes me back to a simpler time, remember when you used to chase after the ice cream van and you didn’t care if you looked silly, it was just fun. That is exactly how I would describe this collection as,’FUN’ and ‘UNPRETENTIOUS’.
I’d like to know what the texture of the print is however, it would be very interesting if they used puff ink (screen printer geek talk) on some of the sprinkles, puff ink gives the ink when dried a slightly raised affect.
In a scene where everyone is trying to be too cool for school, Ugly Kids Club is just fun, the name it self ’Ugly Kids Club’ is inclusive giving ugly kids everywhere a place to belong (very few people can relate to the billionaire lifestyle). ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ is escapism (with their BUMBACLART £60 T-shirts!) Whereas Ugly Kids Club is a healthy representative of the UK street wear because of their inclusiveness , reasonable prices and cool designs.
