Twitter Beef (Really now..??)
0 Monday June 27 2011 Written by flyprintsFollow me on Twitter and Facebook
Since its launch in 2006 Twitter has taken Social Networking and the internet as a whole by storm. It is estimated to have 225 million users who produced 65 million tweets per day and in the 2010 there were a total of 25 billion tweets sent… a madness!
It provides first hand information on breaking news stories, in fact it is usually the first place I find out information such as when a celebrity has passed away or when a bomb scare had been placed on London or when another natural disaster has occured. It also allows members of the public to feel connected with their heroes and celebrities by having an insight into their daily doings. But it has also been the instigator of many online feuds between celebrities and has exposed their beef within the public.
The problem is, are these feuds ever justified over twitter? Its all very well and easy to misinterpret a comment (like in the case between Frank Ocean and Chris Brown recently, see below) especially when the tone or body language in which it is said is missing. Also it seems too easy to type an attacking comment from behind your computer screen or mobile phone, but would the same ever be said face to face?
Personally, I find Twitter beefs amusing and entertaining, the real side of the artist or individual involved is exposed – there is no management telling them what they should and shouldn’t be saying, the individual is free to speak their mind. This is more often than not, not beneficial for the individuals involved, once a tweet is sent by these celebrities there are usually thousands of members of the public that instantly can see what has been said, and there is no going back. Nothing is kept behind closed doors once it has been tweeted and some artists/celebrities should care to remember this with certain things that are said.
Check out a few of the most recent Twitter Beefs below:
Chris Brown Vs. Frank Ocean

This is the most recent Twitter Beefs to take place, it initially started when Frank Ocean took one of Chris Brown’s compliments personally.

Next thing you know Frank’s fellow OFWGKTA comrades Tyler The Creator and Hodgy step in and blows are thrown from side to side.

Then this video emerged of Frank Ocean being chased down by Breezy’s cousins after Frank apparently ran from him at a LA dance rehersals… smh
This video resulted in Frank Ocean setting to his tumblr and releasing this statement:
“frank ocean is not a gangster and does not gangbang. & has no idea how to react to paparazzi, other than to drive away. sorry if i disappointed any fans who thought i was the type to fight in the middle of the street and shit. also for the record, i never went to anyone’s dance rehearsal looking for anyone. in fact, i didn’t even know you could find gangsters at dance rehearsals. but it’s resolved. all is seemingly well. this isn’t worth escalating any further. just had to put this on my timeline as a memorial of some of the weakest shit i’ve experienced in this business so far. hopefully its really over. jah bless.”
Eventually it all came to a peaceful end with the following tweets being said by each party:
Tyler the Creator tweeted: “I just feel like someone I know is gonna get hurt. You people reading this don’t even know. This Shit Isn’t Gonna Stop Till Someone Gets Fuking Killed. I Feel Like Its Gonna Be One Of My Niggas Just Skating Down The Street. Send 7 Dudes With A Camera To Make Frankie Look Like A Bitch, Like, Really? And Its Not [Chris] That’s Doing It, Its The People Around Him. They Like ‘You Gonna Let Him Say That? Fuck That Nigga’. This Shit Has Gotten Outta Hand. Real Shit. @chrisbrown Shit Got Too Real On Both Ends. I’m Over It. We’re All Over This Shit. Its Stupid As Fuck. Swag It Out.”
Frank Ocean tweeted: “alrite. this has to end. freeze on social networks for a minute. freeze on the internet. freeze on the matrix. real world time. brb”
Chris Brown added, “This beef shit is stupid, @frank_ocean I respect ya music and you and Odd Future! Ain’t beefing wit nobody. Y’all can have that! Love.”
Then The Game got involved… ok..!?! “Just got off the phone with my lil brother @chrisbrown & then @f*cktyler. GET MONEY !!!”
Example Vs. Alexandra Burke

But the Twitter Beef isn’t only found on American shores, our British artists have been found to have a few public argument across the social network site as well, take for example London rapper Example and fellow Londoner and X factor winner Alexandra Burke.

The highlight of this Twitter Beef was when Alexandra Burke called Example a ”damn rassclart” Haha, I never thought I’d hear those words come out of her mouth, but there you have it – twitter exposes all!
Rihanna Vs Ciara
This one proves the girls go in over Twitter Beef/Bitch fights just as hard as the boys with these two R&B songstresses. It all started with this comment from Ciara “I ran into her recently at a party and… she wasn’t the nicest..”
Which was followed by a quick reply from Rihanna on Twitter, and led into this:

The real question is.. Twitter Beef… Really now?!?! Is any of it ever necessary? Now I know it’s easy to preach, ”Why can’t everyone just get along?” and I know in reality not everyone is able to get along and there is nothing wrong with that, but this doesn’t mean it’s ok to air your dirty laundry in public. Lets think about this, if Biggie and Tupac were still alive do you think they would beefing over Twitter??
Until next time…
PEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAACEEEEEEEE and beef and twitter and tings
