HEY, HOW ARE YOU?

Life’s good.

WHAT IS APE APPAREL?

Ape Apparel is the Apparel range of an idea called ‘APE’. Presented you to by myself Jc Adams. It promises innovation and originality of king kong sized proportions.

WHAT MADE YOU FIRST START YOUR BRAND?

Creativity did, I developed an idea based around the theme Monkey Business, whereby I had ape characters with mafia boss like persona’s and attire, smoking banana cigars taking care of business. It was a spin on the more jovial connotations of the phrase ‘Monkey Business’.

WHAT IS THE FASCINATION WITH APES AND MONKEYS?

I like how you seperated monkeys from Apes. Their anatomy is a very interesting one to draw. Their similarity to humans allows me to put them into similar situations to humans. So if I put an ape in a car or have it wearing a cap, it doesn’t look so far fetched. It makes it easier to relate to the character. Their very emotive creatures too, truly a joy to draw.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION?

Yes.

WHATS BEEN THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOU JOURNEY THUS FAR?

Compromising creativity for viability.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE UK STREET WEAR SCENE RIGHT NOW, NO POLITICAL ANSWERS PLEASE?

It’s abundant, maybe a little saturated but positively competitive. I think similarly to the theory of evolution though, there’s a ‘survival of the fittest’ rule where only the strongest survive.. Good ideas stand the test of time, we’ll see who’s In it for the craft and who’s in it for the monetary gain.

EGO THIEVES,WHAT IS THAT AND WHAT ROLE DO YOU PLAY?

Ego Thieves is a powerhouse, a sophisticated brand encouraging independent artists and musicians to have their work seen. It’s also a one stop shop for downloadable mixes varying across many genre’s of music, predominantly British. I’m partners in it with Jenai, founder of Ego Thieves, an Artist and DJ himself who’s responsible for 90% of the mixes on the site. It’s amassed over 33million hits in the past year, and the numbers alone not to mention it’s strong branding is a testament to it’s success..
