This week I caught up with Marshall McFly,  an up and coming artist in the music scene. Straight out of South London. Flyprints, flew down and he told us a bit about himself.

1.       What’s, good Marshall can you tell us a bit about yourself and what you do.

What’s going on flyprints?!?!  my name’s Marshall McFly, I’m a young aspiring artist coming straight out of Thornton Heath. South London.

I started taking it seriously roughly about 5 years ago when I decided that this is the career path that I want to take .

2008 I released a free download able mixtape entitled ‘Back To The Future’.

2009 I done a collaborative cd with two members from my fellow Splash! World team who are Dee Gully & Heartbreak Chase which was entitled ‘Calm Before The Storm

2010 I am currently working on my new major project, a 7 tracked EP entitled   ‘Cross My Heart Hope To Die’. Scheduled to be released on February 14th (Valentines Day)  2011 for retail.

2.       Why is your name Marshall Mcfly, are you Scottish?

Ha, ha, nah I’m not Scottish. I’ve been Scotland though, ha, ha.  Well first of all my surname’s Marshall, so that’s where the Marshall part came from, an the McFly part was basically taken from the film ‘Back To The Future’.

‘Back To Future’, its a classic. The main character was played by Michael J Fox an in the film he was called ‘Marty McFly’, where I’m from Marty & Marshall rhyme. People always use to say that I dressed good an that what I was wearing always looked fly.  My boy Jetski Jack always just use to call me ‘Marshall McFly’ an it kinda just stuck.

3.       What inspires you to do what you do, and who do you see as your inspiration?

My life experiences inspires me to do my music, its my number one motivation. I feel like I’ve got a story to tell the people. I may have an ordinary story like everyone else but its how you interpret it in your words which makes you the best. I also just love listening to music in general, I’m a big fan of good music, if its good music I’m guaranteed to be inspired. I love listening to people who are classed as ‘the best’ so I know where the bar is an then I know what I gotta do to be above the bar.

At the moment my main inspirations are only the people that are classed as the best because that’s all I want to become, the best. At the moment like Drake (Young Money) , Kayne West, Rick Ross for his latest music JayZ an Dipset. UK based Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder, Dizzee Rascal & Wiley.

4. Give us a little insight into the day of a life of Marshall Mcfly, What would your day entail?

On Monday, Thursday & Friday I’m at college studying Music Performance so I gotta be up at around 7:30am to get to college at 9am. I finish college roughly around 12ish. After college I normally start cracking on with my music, so weather that’s writing, studio, going to events an networking or planning ideas. I try to do something musical at least once a day to keep me focused.

7.       If you could shop for swagger in only one store, what would it be? and why?

The one store I’d have to choose has got to be Selfridges in west end. Its got everything I need in there. One big store with a million little stores inside, its got my True Religion section for my jeans, its got a Gucci & a Louis Vuitton section for my belts an scarfs, its got a Uni Qlo section for my white tee’s etc. Its gotta be Selfridges!!

8.       What can we expect from you in the near future?

January next year look out for my first solo single entitled ‘One Call Away’ there’s going to be a video for it an will be on all the urban music channels in the UK.

February the 14th my EP entitled ‘Cross My Heart Hope To Die’ will be released so I want everyone to make sure they show support an grab themselves a copy once its released. It will be released on all major digital outlets so you can’t say you can’t find!! Ha ha!!

Shooting a second an third video off the EP later in the year so make sure you look out for those videos aswell.
