FLYPRINTS INTERVIEWS JUNIOR BRAT
1 Tuesday January 11 2011 Written by flyprintsFollow me on Twitter and Facebook
I recently met up with Junior Brat a talented rapper from the UK. “Bound for prosperity” Junior has already opened for Rick Ross and he may be touring with Lil Wayne’s “Young Money”.
1. Hello Mr Junior brat how are you?
I’m really good thank you
2. So, your name, how did you become junior brat are you affiliated with Mz Brat?
Well……… Junior is my government name given to me by my Nan and growing up I’ve always been spoilt so naturally the nickname Brat latched on and followed me throughout my childhood up until now, I’m still known to have the odd tantrum now and again [Laughs] so that doesn’t help either and nar I’m not affiliated with Mz Bratt, but were cool though.
3. How would you describe your music?
I would definitely describe my music as very diverse because there isn’t a particular sound that you can identify me with. I would also say that my music is very eccentric and intermittent because you’ll never know what to expect with me. One day I might vocal a song that is up-tempo with hard baselines and another day I might feel like something that is a little slower with a classical element to it. So it really depends on my mood.
4. Why did you decide to start rapping?
I’ve always been a fan of music from a very young age, my parents used to listen to a lot of soul, rnb and new jack swing and it has very much rubbed off on me. My earliest recollection of me wanting to be a rapper would be during my teens when I was listening to UK artist such as So solid, Heartless crew, Pay you go, Oxide and neutrino amongst a few others and I believe this was because I could easily relate to them.
5. The Grime Pop scene has exploded and MC’s are leaking out from everywhere, why should i listen to you?
I’m junior Brat, I draw my past experiences that are personal to me through my music.
6. What is Unit 2?
Unit 2 is a independent record label I am signed to. At first I was slightly sceptical about a non major investing in my music but the more time I spent with the Co founding members the more I realised that they shared the shame vision that i did and that is to elevate to the next level hence the name unit 2.
7. You have a single called alcohol poisoning, have you ever been legless (drunk out of your head) p.s the funnier the story the better?
Well…… everyone gets drunk now and again. Do you really wanna know?
Every time I’ve gotten drunk I’ve have always lost something either my car/house keys etc. I wonder what I’m gonna lose next? Mmmmmm.
8. What’s the best lyric you’ve written thus far and why?
My favourite lyric would be from smell of success “I’m bound for prosperity if I’m not take me to the cemetery because life ain’t worth living, bury me”
The reason behind it is that, i’m stating that i will not stop until i find success and that i would rather not live than not have it.
9. You opened for Rick Ross, how was that?
Yeah man, that was an amazing feeling because it was my first big crowd and i was extremely pleased how they took to my music especially my hard in the paint remix.lol
10. You’ve been affiliated with Lil Weezy’s young money tour care to share?
After opening for Rick Ross and Tyga, myself and Castro Dfam were asked to come and support young money in America. It is still in working process. (Smiles).
11. Who are the top 3 people you would like to work with and why (Dead or alive)
I would have loved to work with Michael Jackson when he was in his prime, he could write, sing and dance like no other person and i believe i could have learned a lot from someone of such greatness.
Secondly would be Eminem, Just to sit in a studio with him and view where he draws his creativity from would be a dream come true. In terms of painting a picture with words, catching emotion in the song and lyrical content. I don’t think there’s a single person on the planet on his wave length.
Thirdly would be jay z because he is a man of excellence a great business man and a master with his word play. It would be great to be in a studio session with someone who has be relevant in the industry for so long
12. What’s your favourite album of all time?
My favourite album of all would be B.I.G’s ‘life after death’ album, the music on this CD is ageless.
13. What would you like to be remembered for?
I would like to be remembered for making great quality music and for being one of the forefront artists to contribute to giving UK music it’s very much deserved universal and commercial status without having to water it down.
14. Where can people find your music?
You can either subscribe to my YouTube account which is juniorbratTv where there will be a lot video updates, behind scenes, interviews and new music.
You can add my Facebook page which is http://www.facebook.com/juniorbrat or you can download my music from Itunes in the near future.
