Crepe city – 7th November 2010
Written by Nyla Mirza
Crepe city is the London Sneaker Festival that all sneaker heads who are looking for those vintage, dead stock crepes know about. This time round it took on a new venue in Bar Music Hall, Shoreditch so I went down on Sunday to check it out.
First impressions were that the new venue was a major improvement, the Notting Hill Arts club was always a bit cramped and claustrophobic. Bar Music Hall offered half of its venue for the sneakers, with an area around the back purely for the streetwear brands, which included VA-G, Trapstar, Pins, Kayobi Clothing, Benjart and PXL , then kept one side free for seating and people to enjoy food/ drinks. They had tunes blasting from a DJ on the 1s and 2s and overall there was definitely a cool, chilled out vibe to the whole event.

I turned up around late afternoon, so not sure what it was like on opening, previous events have had big queues , people eager to get the first look in on the crepes and bag all the best buys. But even by the time I arrived there were decent amounts of people hunting for their prey. If any of you have seen the ‘Being a Dickhead’s Cool’ video
then you could find a lot of the characters from here at the venue, most people were dressed quite similar, but I’m sure that if you would find them in West London then they’d think they were quite the individual. Typical kids in their snapbacks/bobble hats, fitted jeans rolled up at the bottom, American apparel hoody tied up around their neck and fresh crepes, I’d never seen so many of these type of people in one place before so it came as a bit of a suprise.
As far as the crepes are concerned there was a wide range of your hearts desires, ranging from box fresh to used pairs, the variety was decent and the prices also ranged from around £30 to well over £100. Most of the sellers had websites/stores where other sizes were available which was always handy.

The street wear area was a bit quieter, but apparently was a lot busier at the start of the event, most people were there purely for the sneakers, but street wear goes hand in hand with it, so it was a good move by the organisers.
Overall, was a good afternoon out in East and definitely worth the trip, so would definitely recommend it as a must for any sneaker heads, though I’d recommend to get there early, but also just a cool event with a good vibe for any one in general.
PEACE
