Beyoncé – Year of 4 Documentary

Yesterday Beyoncé released a 20minute documentary on her YouTube channel showing the year long personal and artistic journey that inspired her fourth solo album, 4.
I watched this video in awe, her work ethos is something to admire and draw inspiration from. I have always believed you can truly see how much she loves what she does, is thankful for what she is able to do and strives to be the best she can be as an artist.
This is all evident when you watch her prepare the dance routine for the ‘Run The World’ music video. She remembered a YouTube video of 3 guys from Mozambique dancing and wanted to replicate this style/routine, she couldn’t find any choreographers who could achieve what she wanted and so came up with the solution of flying in the 3 guys off YouTube from Africa to teach herself and her dancers the exact style that she so badly wanted. You can really feel her passion after the video shoot was completed where she was reduced to tears.
I really liked the starting sequences of her self filmed videos, it put her in such a “regular girl” kind of light, something which is often hard for us to imagine when we are used to just witnessing Beyonce “the beast in the booth”, Beyonce the “flawless stunner” or Beyonce “the superstar”.
She also talks about her creative control and input on the album, which she seemed to have a lot of “My focus is not bigger, it’s quality and I want to make sure it’s something I’m proud of years from now”.
“Forget all the record sales, forget all the trying to compete or trying to out do yourself. You should be doing it just because you love it… And that’s what I always want to have, I never want to lose that.”
I. Love. Beyonce.
